so this is the first book in Tara Sivec's ignite trilogy. I loved it!! i was instantly drawn into the book. The prologue wow that prologue! the prologue gave me instant goosebumps!
"Those seventeen days...
Those last seventeen breaths...
Hell, even those seventeen miserable years...
I wouldn't change it for the world if the endgame is him."
swoon!! talk about goosebumps! the hairs on the back of my neck were standing on attention. the prologue was so strong I couldn't wait to get stuck into the story.
It starts off with the female character of the story you meet her at at time when her seventeen year marriage is at a breaking point and you get the first insight into the problems that arise for the character.
I love the style of writing that Tara Sivec chooses for this story. She allows the reader to be right there with the characters experiencing the journey with them. Instead of watching it from the sides you are right there with them, hanging onto every word. I also like the repeating of numbers in the book. As well as the number seventeen repeated we also have:
"The Third Time it was alcohol.
The Fourth time it was cocaine.
The Fifth time it was everything all at once"
I'm not entirely sure why I like the repetitive nature of the numbers but I guess its because it shows what the female character has been through and it shows her journey of getting stronger.
you also get an insight into the strong friendship of Finnley and her best friend Phina. no matter how bad things got Phina was always there for Finnley no questions asked. The friendship between these two woman is really something special. Their friendship is so real and the readers will relate to it so much. They will relate to it in the sense they have that kind of friendship and then they will also relate to it because they can appreciate it as it's a friendship they hope for the kind of friendship everybody wants to have. Phina is a fiery character and has an out-there personality she is fearless even though she's not the main female character and you see glimpses of her, her presence and character is so strong. While Finnley is strong she is more conservative and sensitive and they compliment each other so well.
We also meet Collin quite early on in the book. We hear about him from years before and then we meet him on present day. The connection between Collin and Finnley is instant and very much present and felt. He went onto pursue his dream as a firefighter while she stayed and tried to be the model wife and save her marriage that nobody believed in and that she put her dreams of art aside for. Finnley and Collin had been in love when they were younger but one day Collin broke her heart and Finnley assumed it was because she had not given him her virginity and then Jordan came in and glued the pieces of her broken heart back together. Its a whole lot of push and pull with Finnley and Collin and the complications that come with her ex husband dealing with addictions adds to the situation.
This book is hot, full of passion and has so many gasp worthy moments. Tara Sivec is so talented and she will have you going through all your emotions through-out this book. I definitely did. At one point in the book I had my hands at each side of my face shouting at my book (well my kindle), like I was watching it happen right before my own eyes and this is what I love about Tara's writing she pulls you in and you can't stop until you get to the very end. You will feel every emotion possible while reading this book. You will feel like you know the characters all your life you will root for these characters;the sexy courageous fireman who should've never listened to his best friend and the beautiful broken down woman who has had to pick herself back up and deal with the fact that she never chased her dreams to save a marriage that could not be saved and that the man she always really loved is back. Tara does a beautiful job of showing the hot fireman side of him but yet showing he is still human reminding us that just because he is in the public service that he does still feel and get effected, she writes this so beautifully reminding us to respect and appreciate all the public service men and woman for what they do for us daily and aren't appreciated nearly enough. You also still have Jordan in the picture her bitter ex husband who is still dealing with his addictions and still looking for someone to blame. You will definitely hate him, instantly, but you MAY also pity him for a minute. He complicates things and is not going down without a fight.
Is it just lust, pent up sexual frustration to be burned out or is it a love they can burn out together, forever?
or is it just seventeen seconds too late?
