My First Interview for the blog. Thank you so so much I'm so excited!
I’m thrilled to be here. Thanks for having me!
1) So It's the Blog Tour for STEELE: Into Your Heart - Excited? Nervous? Do you still get nerves for releases and Blog Tours etc.?
I’m super excited for this one, as I am for all my books. But, the Carolina Bad Boys are very special to me because they have a growing number of awesome readers I’ve gotten know on Facebook, and I can’t wait for them to read the latest installment.
I don’t get nervous per se, but I do get a little OCD about checking for reviews and rankings, etc. in the first few days. The only time I get a bit anxious is when I do a launch party, but that’s just until it gets rolling. Then it quickly turns into a night of crazy fun!
2) This is the third installment in Carolina Bad Boys - Aside from the synopsis how would you describe this book?
Rough, tough, and dirty with a downhome helping of sexy, sweet, and sass ;-)
3) Well you have written very different genres, you have even written Paranormal and M/M. For people who haven't ventured off
into these genres yet, (people like me! oops. sorry!) How would you encourage us to take a chance on these genres?
Awesome! You’ve done your homework. I guess it depends on the reader. I’m the type of person who will devour anything from a writer I love, no matter the genre. So, if you like my writing for one genre, why not give another a go? It’s the same sexy ingredients and gritty voice, just a different set of rules to play by.
4) Where does your inspiration for the Carolina Bad Boys come from?
I knew I wanted to write some sexy alpha males. And I absolutely LOVE where I live, the South Carolina lowcountry (this is the
Charleston area). I put those two together and came up with the concept of the series.
As for Josh Stone—he’s my hot-hot-hot mechanic in book #1, Stone: At Your Service—boy, did I ever have trouble coming up with a profession for him. I thought I wanted him to be a blue-collar type of guy but couldn’t figure out what. Until, that is, I took my mommy van into the local auto shop for a new tire. A good looking mechanic walked down the parking lot toward me in his blue coveralls with his oil rag out, gave me a little smirk . . . and Josh Stone was born! Then I swooned. Kidding!
So from him becoming a mechanic who owns his own successful garage, the series quickly grew to include other characters: his best buddy the male romance writer (Nicky Love from book #2, Love: In The Fast Lane), Brodie Steele and the beginning of the Retribution MC in this new release, etc.
The series is vastly growing! This summer I’m doing a four-book spinoff: The Bad Boys of Retribution MC! But then of course I’m getting back to my Carolina Bad Boys.
5) I've mentioned already that your genres have varied, which book/series was your biggest challenge so far?
My biggest challenge, but also one of my biggest pride and joys (and a little known secret readers haven’t seemed to found out about yet), is my Don’t Tell series. It’s published by Big 5 Grand Central Publishing and, man, that editing put me through the wringer. But it was so worth it because I learned a lot along that editing journey.
It’s a dystopian and pansexual series with an overreaching revolutionary arc—so yeah, it took a lot brainpower to bring together those three novels. But, at the heart of the books, they’re still very clearly me—funny at times, super sexy hot, and full of heart—yet at the same time a different side of me.
6) Is there another genre or topic, you would like to tackle next?
I have the first book completed in a new M/M contemporary sports romance. And that it is all I’m saying about that one just yet ;-)
7) Out of all the characters you have written, which one did you have the
strongest connection with?
Oh, no. The hardest question of all! I can’t name one character more than another. I connect with all of them, in different ways. But I will say I feel them the most when they have their LMFAO moments, or give me the sad_sad_sad cries.
8) Do your readers ever ask you for advice on writing? On starting out writing, What is the best advice you would give them?
I do get asked frequently, and I’m glad people find me approachable enough to ask. Here’s my advice:
1. Learn your craft
2. Learn your business
3. Know when to hire professional help (like a counselor, so you can get some prescription Valium. Kidding! Editors, cover artists, etc.)
9) Do you listen to music when you are writing? What is your favourite music to listen to?
I listen to music constantly while I’m writing . . . mostly to drown out my kids. Heh. No, I do listen to music while writing but mainly because it’s helps the words flow. So each book has a different playlist and the songs fit what’s happening in the books. I don’t have favorites. I listen to most everything depending on the mood I need to evoke: classic rock, hard rock, folk, “emo”, pop . . . My least favorite type of music is country, though.
My playlists are here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWZpwlZuVbLejK8ckJa6mug
10) Now one last question, MC men are full of tattoos (my favourite!!) Have you any tattoos yourself?
Ruh roh! You’ve found out my deep, dark secret. I don’t have any tats at all! I just never did it, and now I think it’s too late. But you never know, anything’s possible.
Thank you so much. I hope the questions were ok. And if there is anything you would like to add. Please do! :-)
Very many thanks for having me along. I had a total blast!
