5 star review * * * * *
When Cecily Buchanan walks into the Roadhouse Bar and Grill and offers to sing for a meal, ex Marine Jake McGarrity can't say no. Some say Jake is too soft hearted for his own good. But letting the waif with the cover girl face and the voice of an angel walk away would be more than he could stand.

Cecily's sweet nature, bubbly personality and obvious talent endear her to everyone she meets, and Jake soon knows his heart is lost.

Cecily has secrets and won't talk about her past, one so dark that she has nightmares and clutches a knife while she sleeps.

When those who are chasing her close in, she faces the decision of whether to run again or to trust her life to the cowboy angel who has taught her the meaning of love.

“Shocking, but oh, so sweet.”

********Author's note: This book includes content about past rape and abuse*********

HOLY SHIT. where do I start with this book? Ok so let me start off by saying, If a girl came into your bar asking for a free meal if she sang to your bar full of customers. Would YOU?

If a girl needed a place to stay or she could go hitchhiking.
Could she stay with YOU?

If a person needed saving, what would YOU DO?

just really ask yourself them questions and think about it for a while.

I don't know what I can say about this. It was an emotional one that is for sure. It's a story of complete survival, and it's not always easy. For all the women who can relate to this story my heart breaks for what you went through but I also admire you because you have survived and got through the worst of the worst.

I applaud BR Kingsolver to write this story, because like I said to her in the interview we done, I don't think this story is done nearly enough, authors and even readers won't touch it but it's a story that needs to be told. It's not for the faint hearted as it contains content of rape, violence, drugs etc, but that being said everyone needs to read this, if a book can change the way we think, it's this one.

Cecily, the girl that walked into Jakes bar, with nothing but her guitar, offering to sing for a meal. Cecily was a fighter from the very start, she is a survivor and has no other choice. Jake, ex marine and the man with a heart of gold, decides he's going to take a chance let her sing and let her stay in his home.

I found it very hard to fully understand Cecily sometimes, the way she thought, her choices, and I also despise the things that happened to her. It just broke my heart sometimes the way she thought, what she thought she deserved what she had to do to survive, but that's it, that is all she knew how to do. Some readers will probably find it a hard read and an emotional read, and it is but it's also so real and maybe you'll go away from this understanding a bit more.

I love Jake. People always look at him as he's silly for taking chances and for being  'naive' but he's not a stupid man, he's thoughtful, loyal and he has his own heart break in life. I can't applaud Cecily enough, she damn well broke my heart, leaving me with lumps in my throat while reading wishing I could hug her, shake her and protect her all at once but then she mad me laugh out loud, she had some pretty awful things happen to her yet her personality shone the brightest.

This story isn't hearts and flowers, not by a long shot. It's an emotional journey with ups and downs everywhere, compelling characters, It's dark, heartbreaking but all in all it's a tale of two people surviving and saving eachother with love and a book I will be recommending to everybody. so go and get it!

MOST MEMORABLE QUOTE FROM BOOK.
"Well, I guess that's something you have to decide," I said. "For me, I'd rather have a man who treats me well and makes me feel loved one day a week, than one who abuses me seven days a week."
