SYNOPSIS:
Charlie Sykes takes everything and everyone at face value—and believes life would be a lot easier if everyone else did, too. Aussie Jace Knight, international hotelier and purported playboy, has never met anyone like the absurdly literal and obliviously beautiful American who applies for his personal assistant position. The trouble is, how do you pursue a woman whose definition of flirting comes straight out of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary? That, and he’s not the only one after Charlie. Seems Mr. Knight might not be a reformed criminal after all.
Soon, Charlie’s immersed in a whirlwind of international espionage that takes her from the hip streets of Sydney to the majestic Great Barrier Reef and the wild, desolate outback. A dangerous trap’s being set, but how will Charlie protect herself and prevent a tragic betrayal, when she can’t even sort out what her heart’s telling her?

EXCERPT
“Look me in the eye.”
I did as he asked.
“Now ask me.”
“Are you,” I caught my breath, “involved in criminal activities?” I sounded very quiet. Not myself.
I felt a burn in my nose, and my eyes grew blurry. He blew air out of his nose and stepped closer, but I stepped back, needing space to stay the course.
“Don’t,” I said.
“Don’t what?” he asked, tenderly.
I flashed on him again, surprised. His face had grown lighter, calmer . . . maybe as he took in my sadness. He had uncrossed his arms, and tilted his head to the side.
No. I knew what he was trying to do.
“Seduce the truth away,” I answered, remembering how he had reassured me in Port Douglas with physical affection.
His mouth popped open.
“I deserve better.”
He flinched, and, after a moment, glanced away.
MY REVIEW! 3.5 STARS
This was my first book from Lesley Young so I wasn't sure what I was going into but excited too! Charlie Sykes is leaving her old life behind and is going to live a dream life over in Australia. If only if it was that easy. She is hoping to get a job to keep her going in Australia and that job just might be as Jace Knights personal assistant. Jace Knight's name is on everybody's lips. Everyone talks about him everyone seems to know him and everyone wants him in one way or another. Jace Knight wants Charlie Sykes but to say she is not like any other woman is an understatement. Charlie just knowing Jace Knight gets both of them caught in a big mess of danger and misconceptions.
Charlie is that character that you will love or hate. I really don't think there will be an in between. She hasn't got a filter, how she voiced things is exactly how she is thinking and for some it will be off putting. Because she speaks how she feels and is honest to a fault , she expects it from everyone around her and maybe that can leave her naive, it's also interesting as well as uncomfortable.
I wanted to so bad to love this. Charlie reminded me of Sheldon Cooper from the big bang theory, and while I love him and he is hilarious I think that's how Charlie should come across and maybe she does for many people. I found it a little uncomfortable, and some people love that, Charlie was an out of the box character, completely different to the norm. It just wasn't for me this time around. I couldn't connect with her, the way she spoke and the way she was, I can't pinpoint what it is about the way she spoke. Yes, it reminded me of historical romance, the way they speak but I enjoy historical romance so it wasn't that. It was more that she was void of any emotion at all. Even when she was by herself, in her own thoughts there was nothing for me to be able to connect to her and I think if we got Jace's POV that would have helped too. Jace was powerful and confident. He was the picture of a bad boy but there was so much to him that we get to unravel throughout the story until the very end. The story was good, these two were an unlikely match, complete opposites yet so attracted to one another and when they were together it was hot. There was also angst, not knowing who or what to trust and which way it was going to end. I wish I could have connected with Charlie- however I will be reading other books by Lesley Young because the story and the writing were very good.
